Register on a city or county PlanetBids portal

PlanetBids is software that many cities, counties, and special districts use to post bids and collect vendor profiles.

What PlanetBids is

PlanetBids is a private company.

City and county portals are separate

Registering with one city does not register you with the county, and it does not register you on Cal eProcure or SAM.gov.

What these portals are for

Local agencies post informal quotes and formal bids, share planholder lists, and store vendor contacts.

Prepare once, then reuse the packet

The facts below show up on almost every local profile.

  • Legal name, DBA, and addresses
  • Tax identifier
  • Commodity or license categories you can actually perform
  • A monitored email inbox
  • Insurance certificates, when a bid asks for them
  • Licenses required for the trade in that jurisdiction
  • A short capability statement and a few references

How local registration fits with state and federal

These are separate systems.

  • SAM.gov is the federal vendor registration. It is free.
  • Cal eProcure is the California state portal.
  • A city or county PlanetBids site is local to that agency.
  • WBENC and similar certifiers run their own applications and charge their own fees.
